This post is the first in a series showcasing some of the amazing pet-friendly businesses around the Waikato! I have been wanting to put this series together for a while now, as my way of saying thanks to these businesses for allowing pets, and also to provide pet owners in the Waikato with a place they can find all the pet-friendly businesses they can use.
I always love meeting other artists and was especially excited for this business feature. What most people don’t know is that when I’m not on the ground photographing pets, I actually love following nail artists online and attempting the more basic designs (with varying levels of success!). When Katrina from NailArtFX in Chartwell, Hamilton answered my call on Facebook for pet-friendly local businesses, I spent a good hour browsing the mind-blowing designs on her Facebook page. The level of detail in her work is incredible and when I heard about Sooty the salon dog I knew I had to meet them!
Sooty is a 4 year old blue English Staffordshire Bull Terrier who loves spending time in the salon. Though he isn’t always in the salon, Katrina often has clients requesting that he join them while she works her magic on their nails. He can usually be found lying in the sun by the ranch slider or snoozing at the feet of the clients. I fell in love with Sooty, he gave me lots of cuddles while I was at the salon and thought my squeaky dinosaur was the coolest thing he’s seen!
Katrina has 10 years of experience as a nail artist and over 20 certificates to back her high level of skill. She trained with world leading nail artists Viv Simmonds, Catherine Wong and Racheal Mouritsen and has trained other nail artists since 2008. Not only is her work incredible, she is also the importer and distributer of RaNails and EFexclusive brands, the NZ Representative for Eurofashion and sub-distributor for Eye of Horus cosmetics.
Katrina says that clients often bring small dogs to their appointments, with some of them sitting on the table to keep an eye on their owners! Safety is always a top priority of clients at the salon, so Katrina has installed a safety gate to keep the small dogs out of trouble!
I had a tough time choosing which of Katrina’s nails I should share in this post, so this is just a small taste of what she does!
I’m on the look out for more local pet-friendly businesses to feature here! Do you know of some that I should feature? Leave me a comment below and I’d love to check it out.
