Easy Walk, 1 Hour – Lake Puketirini, Huntly

Lake Puketirini is a man-made lake on the west side of Huntly. Just around the corner from State Highway 1 (turn off at KFC, head over the Tainui Bridge, straight through the round about and the lake is on the right – can’t miss it!), it is an under rated gem of the Waikato. Awesome lake, woodland areas, wetlands and open grass areas, it is a great place to explore with the dogs. It is generally very quiet to visit, and with nice wide gravel trails it is pretty easy going for the whole family. It’s roughly a 3.5km loop, but with a few different trails you can walk as far or as little as you like, and you could easily spend an afternoon having a picnic and enjoying the trails.
