Located near the Tuakau Bridge, this is an easier short bush walk with the added bonus of being an official off lead area!
The path is generally easy going, with some steps and logs to navigate, and winds its’ way through native bush with a great view over the Waikato River. We only passed a couple of other people and one dog, so we had the trail to ourselves most of the way. The walking track is quite narrow in parts, so be aware of this if you have an especially nervous dog.
Beautiful views, photo taken looking back towards the Waikato River & the Tuakau Bridge to Highway 22.
Car Parking – Located at the end of Alexandra Redoubt Road, park to the side of the road out of the way.
Toilets/Water – No
Bin – At the cemetery at the start
Other – There were many poison warning signs around, so I opted to keep my dogs on lead the majority of the way even though it is an official off lead area. If this is the case when you visit & you are wanting to take your dog for a good run afterwards, there is an off lead dog area just around the corner at Les Batkin Reserve, with access to the river for a swim. The walk finishes in a cemetery, so please keep your dogs under good control and be respectful of those buried there.
